By Miranda Chiechi Fashion trends create an endless cycle by bringing back trends from the past. This winter, it is time to scavenge through your local thrift shop...

Because the 90s are back.

Wherever you look, you may be able to spot someone, somewhere, clad in plaid or distressed denim. UT students are sharing their thoughts with ORANGE on the 90s style throwbacks and how they plan on incorporating them into their wardrobes this winter.

1. Sweater Weather When classes end, the frigid weather begins. You can still incorporate your favorite flannel in an ensemble by layering it with a sweater to keep you extra warm. Flannels are a must-have for international relations and pre-med sophomore, Alberto Amesquita. "When I think of flannels, I think of happier times because I think of the holidays," Amesquita says.

2. Going Lighter for Fall You can never anticipate the temperature with Texas’ fickle weather. For an unexpected warmer, fall day, pair your favorite dress with a flannel around your waist or over your shoulders. Environmental science freshman Katie Aplis says she doesn’t worry about how fancy her dress is because she finds flannels versatile. "They kind of go with everything," Aplis says. "You can put them on top of everything to dress something down."

3. Let's Talk Vests If you are looking to add a little extra flair to an outfit, layering a flannel with a vest and adding a beanie is the way to go. Theater arts freshman Adrian Collins believes wintertime is the best time to pull out your favorite pieces from your wardrobe and wear them together. "I just think everything looks so good together in the winter," Collins says.

4. Layers on Layers A flannel doesn't have to be the only outerwear worn over your T-shirt. Add an army jacket and pair the two with some ripped boyfriend jeans for the complete grunge look. If you ask Collins, layering is one of the most appealing aspects of flannels. "In the winter, you can layer them, so you can wear them by themselves, if it's not that cold, or you can put another jacket over it," Collins says.

But we can’t let flannel take all of the attention. The denim jacket is another 90s necessity for this winter. Special education sophomore Amy Fennie prefers a jean jacket over a flannel because she says the light blue hue goes with everything, and she likes the unique look. "I got it from a random seller on Amazon so it's not something you can find everywhere," Fennie says. Fennie usually wears it with leggings, a shirt and boots or with a dress.

Whether it's a flannel or a denim jacket, the 90s are making a stylish comeback this season.

(And as for the mystery about what the plaid flannel mania is all about, association with the holiday season, versatility and the ability to layer them are just some of the reasons that make this button-up so lovable.)
